Common name: Himalayan Meadow Primrose
Botanical name: Primula rosea
Family: Primulaceae (Primrose family)

It’s impossible to miss this species when it’s in bloom. It is a plant of damp places, snow-melts and stream-sides in the Himalayas. The flowers emerge in early spring before the leaves and are a pretty vivid rose-pink, with a yellow eye. The flowers occur in a compact umbel carried on top of stem 3-10 cm tall. Leaves are obovate, finely toothed. Flowers are 1-2 cm across, with deeply notched petals. Occurs at altitudes of 2700-4000 m. Flowering: June-August.
